HON JOHN MICHUKI.
I join the nation in mourning the passing of Hon. John Njoroge Michuki, late minister for environment and Member of Parliament for Kangema.
Hon. Michuki was my friend and colleague in Government. In the course of national service, I came to forge an invaluable bond with Hon Michuki, that was unlikely, given our disparity in ages and background. Our friendship was based on our shared values of unwavering and indefatigable service to Kenya guided by the need for effective delivery of results, and mutual disdain for the politics of loud, empty promises. I count myself among the proud admirers and practitioners of his style of effective leadership. The problems of Kenyans are not theoretical; they cannot wait for politicians to bicker and argue first. They are urgent and require expeditious and substantive resolution. For this reason, I will personally miss Hon. Michuki’s presence, counsel and example.
While the time we have in this world is short, the importance of a life is not measured by its length, but rather the value of its legacy and the richness of its impact. Without a doubt, Hon. Michuki’s significance is singular; God favoured him with a fairly long life,a talent for leadership and entrepreneurship, a supportive family and a career whose fruits Kenyans have numerously enjoyed. Therefore, while we mourn the great man’s passing, let us also reflect on the meaning of his life and service, and strive to make our individual contributions effective and meaningful. Let us also do our best to make government and public service synonymous both in word, and especially in deed. If possible, let our service to the nation be as exemplary as Hon. Michuki’s. Let us give a chance for real performers to lead this country.
On behalf of my friends, family, and on my own behalf, I say a heartfelt pole the Hon. Michuki’s family and friends as well as his constituents and the nation at large. We pray that God grant the family of Hon Michuki the serenity to accept the passing of an illustrious patriarch and leader, and rest his soul in peace. I want them to know that they will not be alone in missing Waziri Mheshimiwa Michuki.
