GANZE MP Francis Baya has said he ditched the Kadu-Asili, the party that sponsored him to Parliament in the 2007 general election, because of power tussles and mismanagement. The Immigration assistant minister has joined the Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo-led Federal Party of Kenya.
Baya, who was speaking yesterday in Kilifi, accused former Kenyatta University lecturer Gabriel Katana of hijacking Kadu-Asili and turned into a domain of his relatives. He said his efforts to give the party a national outlook were frustrated by the officials. He had wanted to nationalize the party through having positions distributed to various regions in the Coast and beyond but had been blocked by a clique of leaders who felt that they had a right to the political outfit than others.
“So many people have been wondering why I have left the party that sponsored me to parliament despite being the only MP but power wrangles and mismanagement of its affairs were not auguring well with my democratic principles,” he said. He claimed that the party, now under former Kenyatta University don Gabriel Katana, was being held at ransom by officials who hail from the same location adding that most of them were close relatives.
He claimed that his argument that a political party cannot be run by officials from the same locality for that would be localizing it; fell on deaf ears compelling him to seek another one. Baya who said he would officially announce his defection after undergoing the required procedural process also claimed that there was a disagreement over the expenditure of the party’s cash amounting to Sh 4 million.
A Kadu-A official Mwinga Gunga said there was a meeting planned to discuss the issue adding that the party was now under new stewardship even as Secretary General Patience Chome earlier said the MP had been kicked out because of associating with other parties.
