Do you tend to be broke or always go over budget? Here are some simple ways to take control of your finances.
1. Mobile Bill Pay
Save yourself errand expenses, and avoid late fees by paying your bills by mobile money or online. You can pay direct to your creditors, or set up automatic bill pay with your bank; and take yourself out of the equation entirely.
Reduce your transport expenses by taking a matatu or driving only when you have to. Walk when you are not going far. The streets in towns are usually safe by day and largely paved. Plus this gives you a chance to get some exercise and a breath of fresh air.
3. Eating out less
Eating out is mostly unavoidable, but far more expensive than eating at home. Challenge yourself to eat at home more often – even if it's just once more a week, and watch your savings grow. Then, find ways to minimise the cost of eating out when you do decide to treat yourself.
4. Compare prices
Whether you're shopping for the latest tech toys, buying a pair of shoes, or planning the budget for a party, use shopping sites to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Some also work with independent sellers that might be offering a better deal than retail stores and merchants.
