The administrative headquarters of Kerala Government is the Secretariat which also houses the offices of all ministers, Secretaries to Government and 37 departments. Six blocks house these departments. A Secretariat Wide Area Network (SWAN) connecting the Secretariat, Secretariat annexe, Vikas Bhavan and Public Office in a phased manner is being setup by the Government. A computerized environment in which the employees can work comfortably determines the success of any eGovernance project. Hence the refurbishing work in the whole Secretariat was initiated by the Government of Kerala. The refurbishing work and modular partitioning in the main blocks of the Secretariat have been completed.
Cable hubs and switches connect the current network of 500 computers. BSNL lines of 2 Mbps capacity provide internet connection. Firewalls provide adequate protection and a provision for Network Access Storage is provided. For proper functioning of the system Network server, mail server etc are also in place. The offices of all the Ministers, Secretaries and other senior officials in the Secretariat are connected by the system. Due to this system there is there is effective communication.
The better administration has led to a number of infrastructural developments. The special economic zone in Kakkanad, International Airport Ltd., the International Container Transshipment Terminal at Vallarpadam, Infopark are some of the large scale investments that have taken place in Cochin. As a result Cochin has become a hub of activity. There are a number of people who are now interested in investing in Cochin. A number of builders are turning their attention towards the estates here. The Cochin real estate prices are reaching new heights.
