<> SafariCom (.KE) is a MONOPOLY (we've argued this point many times before)
<> even IF Vodafone plans transferring it's ~40% stake in SCOM to it's South Africa Subsidiary Vodacom , STILL, .KE Gov can/should argue it be sold to .KE investors, or VOD ( South Africa Vodacom) be cross referenced in NSE ( read: traded/made available to .KE investors)

References/footnotes:
* Vodacom has mobile network operations in South Africa, Tanzania, DRC, Mozambique and Lesotho, Nigeria, Zambia, Angola, Kenya, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon. Through Vodacom Business Africa (VBA), Vodacom also offer business managed services to enterprises in over 30 countries across Africa.
* Vodacom shares are listed on the JSE Limited (VOD): publicly traded in SA
* Vodacom is owned on a 35:65 basis by the South African telecommunications group Telkom and the British mobile phone operator Vodafone. and Telkom said that it would spin off its remaining holding by listing it on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. On April 1, 2011
* Vodafone owns ~40% of Safaricom, .KE Gov. 35%, publicly traded on NSE 25% (SCOM)

I don't have to take a M-Shwari loan to know that the rate is 7.5%. You appear to have pulled the 30% from your backside where the sun doesn't shine.

Float it on NSE & give Kenyans first choice!!!

http://uk.reuters.com/article/us-vodaco ... KKCN18B0K5
But it won't be all done and dusted behind closed doors at the Vodafone family mansion. The deal still has to be approved by regulators and minority shareholders in South Africa and Kenya.
The South African government owns a 14% slice of Vodacom and Kenya's regulators could decide that the deal breaches an ownership threshold that would make it compulsory for Vodacom to make a bid for Safaricom as a whole. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-39922634

i. thanks, that confirms .ZA owns the 13% of Vodacom, held via JSE "Public Investment Corp. Ltd. 196,005,410 13.2%"
The Safaricom deal also simplifies the management of two of Vodafone's biggest money-spinners
SCOM as an absolute monopoly is leaping billions in .KE & it's ONLY fair that monies be ploughed back to .KE economy, by whatever means necessary (where is dr. Patrick Ngugi Njoroge, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga (issues like these & who imports sugar, maize do indeed have traction & national interest ... .KE should act to protect us from continued bilking:
<> Cross listing VODJ, VOD at NSE
<> .KE buying the stake being hived to .ZA
<> sell that stake to .KE locals & Diaspora

Otherwise sisi mfereji wa kupeleka pesa kwa Vodacom/Vodafone( business pillaging), & please do NOT be so naive as to say other telecoms are free to make the money: first understand what an absolute monopoly is!
