Kenya set to explode...

Unread post by SamPele » Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:31 am

Wananchi will likely find no satisfaction at the ballot tomorrow. The stakes for them are too high. It might mean another five years of loitering and tarmacking since "their" man has (again) failed to occupy the seat. When your life is predetermined by what tribal allegiance you hold how can such an election be anything but of most paramount significance? Of life and perhaps death?

Election after election in Kenya, one thing has been steady, the incumbent has won either fairly or through suspect mechanisms. Tomorrow will be no different. This president has failed and failed to deliver on fundamental changes in Kenya. His key opponent is uninspiring and appears to be in it one last time after years of being victimized by the same exercise he again exposes himself to.

So will you be surprised when Kenya burns yet again?

Somepeddler,

What exactly will explode? Kenyans' only duty is to cast their votes for the leaders they want. IEBC/myriad of observers give opinions. Any aggrieved parties go to court. Where is the "explosion of kenya"?

Think about it, you cleared from Egerton in 2010. A small attachment for three months back in 2015 was all the formal employment you have ever had. The learned you watched as suspect after suspect in the PEV, some victims not far from where you went to college, slither away from justice. Now a decade later, you calamity has included a sibling or two. You see the connected get attachments and eat. What do you have to live for? You see the corrupt reinvent themselves after buying new kitenges and all is forgiven. You see state sanctioned assassinations take place with nary a concern. The wheels of justice are churning you are promised. Does evil get punished, you wonder? Is Kenya a country of laws or exemptions? Tomorrow, you are informed is your chance to be a good citizen, for lasting change...

The official numbers claim only two dozen deaths. Journalists are being denied free movement in some areas of Nairobi and Nyanza. Reports from Kisumu indicate scores killed and police and military exercises infringing on peoples rights and movements.

Be safe.

The soon to be international pariah Odinga is playing his last card. His western friends told him privately that it was as clear as daylight- he had lost at the ballot. He insisted on using his obviously fabricated kalatas to threaten disorder in order to negotiate accommodation. Everyone told him to unleash his worst since it was clear his claims had no legitimacy. Today the New York Times described him as a perennial loser with unsubstantiated allegations here;

We have seen the worst of the violence unless babuu is taking up arms. After the work boycott spectacularly flopped today, babuu will tomorrow climb down and threaten another impotent move- the supreme court.

I certainly do not agree with Raila in asking people to stay home. Lives and livelihoods must continue. But the system we have in place to correct electoral grievances is needless to say compromised and suspect. That is part of our systemic shortcomings.

I take issue with NYT's characterization of Mr. Odinga as a "perennial loser". Would they refer to Ms. Clinton similarly? Odinga did not loose in 2007. Odinga likely also won in 2013. But he lost this election that was fairly run. Odinga will in a few days come to terms with the situation, allow him time to reflect.

One life lost is too much. I wouldn't celebrate nor refer to it as "peaceful". The red-haired bufffon elected to the White House led to exactly zero deaths as a result.

Be safe.
