Night travel ban shows that Kenya is, after all, a banana republic.

Night travel ban shows that Kenya is, after all, a banana republic. It is only in a banana republic that a government official can just wake up one day, and declare that buses are only to move between 6 am and 7 am. Such a far reaching directive! That can never happen in a real democracy. It can't even happen in a properly run dictatorship.
There is probably a political angle to it too, by the way. I remember that after the 2013 election, the government found some pretext to impose a similar night travel ban. It was only after the political dust settled fully, with Raila and Uhuru shaking hands at Jimmi Wanjigi's place, that the ban was removed. So there is probably a political angle (which I can't fathom) to it. Road safety is only a pretext.
Kazungu Charo,
